For reviews of some of the best shopping in Santa Cruz check out the Santa Cruz Local Guide. http://santa-cruz-ca.org/category/shopping

Should I post more often?

I have been thinking about how much I am out and about in town, and also how much I really am in love with santa cruz. I should probably do this great URL justice and post more regularly.

I run a few blogs and have been invited to guest blog on The Local Santa Cruz Guide, you should probably check them out to for the Best Santa Cruz has to offer.

Posting from my phone

My favorite method of posting is to take a picture on my cell phone and email to a blog with a little copy. I sometimes go back after and update the blog with additional details. This particular blog is strange though, for some reason Verizon really likes to include a MMS footer, which you can see on some of my posts below. Because of the footer thing, I don't post to this blog nearly as much as some of my others.

If you ar elooking for my more complete local blog, you can check it out here Local Santa Cruz.

Del Mar Theater

The Plaque on the wall at the Del Mar Theater here in Santa Cruz reads:

"Booming theatre business in Santa Cruz led the Golden State Theatre chain to replace the 700-seat Unique with the 1,500-seat Del Mar in 1936. The movie palace was a flagship of the chain, with a stage and 25 piece orchestra pit for vaudeville acts and conventions. From his Del Mar Offices Barney Gurnette also managed the New Santa Cruz and Rio theatres. Live Del Mar shows continued into the 1970's with concerts by Lionel Hamption, Duke Ellington, Jerry Garcia, Tom Waits, Emmylou Harris, and the Tubes.
When a Chamber of Commerce bid failed to purchase the theatre, United Artists partitioned it into a four-plex in 1978. 1999 plans to convert it to shops and offices were stopped when a coalition was formed to save the theatre in 2001. The city redevelopment aAgecy purchased the theatre, installed an elevator, and made the facility thoroughly accessible for the disabled. Jesse Nickell of Barry Swenson Builder and George Ow Jr. renovated the structure and main auditorium, and the Nickelodeon's Jim Schwwenterley and Chuck Volwiler outfitted it for movies."

It is pretty cool that our favorite midnight movie theater is still around.

Santa Cruz is a pretty cool place! You can read more about the local theaters in Santa Cruz on the Santa Cruz Local Guide
